Background of the Study

Supply chain management (SCM) is a critical component of manufacturing industries, especially in large-scale operations like Dangote Cement Factory. Efficient supply chain operations are essential for ensuring the timely delivery of raw materials, managing inventory, and optimizing distribution networks. However, traditional supply chain systems often struggle with handling complex data from various sources, such as suppliers, manufacturers, logistics providers, and consumers. This leads to inefficiencies such as delays, excess inventory, or stockouts.

Quantum-assisted supply chain management leverages quantum computing to optimize complex processes that involve large datasets and interdependent variables. Quantum algorithms can process vast amounts of information quickly, enabling faster decision-making, more accurate predictions, and better resource allocation. By utilizing quantum computing for optimization, Dangote Cement can enhance the efficiency of its supply chain operations, reduce costs, and improve service delivery. This study investigates the potential of quantum-assisted supply chain management in the context of Dangote Cement Factory in Benue State.

Statement of the Problem

The Dangote Cement Factory in Benue State faces challenges associated with optimizing its supply chain, including managing raw materials procurement, inventory levels, and logistics. Traditional optimization models often fail to deliver the necessary performance due to the high complexity of supply chain networks and real-time decision-making requirements. Quantum computing offers a promising alternative to address these inefficiencies, but its application in supply chain management within the cement industry remains unexplored. This study seeks to investigate the feasibility and effectiveness of quantum-assisted optimization for improving supply chain management in Dangote Cement.

Objectives of the Study

  1. To assess the potential of quantum computing in optimizing supply chain management at Dangote Cement Factory.

  2. To develop a quantum-assisted model for improving raw materials procurement and inventory management.

  3. To evaluate the impact of quantum-assisted optimization on logistics and distribution efficiency in Dangote Cement's supply chain.

Research Questions

  1. How can quantum computing assist in optimizing the supply chain management at Dangote Cement Factory?

  2. What effect does quantum-assisted optimization have on inventory management and logistics efficiency in Dangote Cement’s supply chain?

  3. What challenges exist in implementing quantum-assisted supply chain management models within the cement industry?

Significance of the Study

This study will be valuable to Dangote Cement as it explores innovative solutions to improve the efficiency and profitability of their supply chain. By leveraging quantum computing, the factory can reduce operational costs, improve inventory turnover, and ensure timely delivery of products to customers. The findings may also be applicable to other manufacturing industries facing similar challenges in supply chain optimization.

Scope and Limitations of the Study

The study will focus on the optimization of supply chain management processes at Dangote Cement Factory in Benue State. Limitations include the challenges of implementing quantum computing models in an industry that is traditionally reliant on classical computing and the need for infrastructure capable of supporting quantum-based optimization.

Definitions of Terms

  1. Quantum-Assisted Supply Chain Management: The use of quantum computing techniques to optimize various aspects of supply chain management, such as inventory control, logistics, and procurement.

  2. Optimization: The process of making something as effective or functional as possible by minimizing waste and inefficiencies.

  3. Logistics: The management and coordination of the movement of goods and services within a supply chain.
